Cataract Surgery

Until recently, life without reading glasses or bifocals was not an option for cataract patients. You now have that option with the new Multifocal IOL which is currently being offered at Keystone Eye Associates to patients who are candidates for the new lens. The Multifocal lens can provide you with quality vision for both near and far, decreasing the needs for glasses or bifocals.

An Intraocular Lens (IOL) is an artificial lens that is implanted in the eye to replace the eye's clouded lens during cataract surgery. Traditional or monofocal IOLs used in cataract procedures provide good functional distance and near vision but offer little benefit for a full range of vision. This means that most people with monofocal IOLs may still need glasses.

For many people, a Multifocal IOL or an Accomodative IOL does mean decreased dependency from glasses when reading, driving, and performing other tasks. The Ophthalmologists at Keystone Eye Associates will evaluate your suitability for a Multifocal IOL or an Accomodative IOL. Not all patients are candidates for this new technology and your Keystone Eye Associate Ophthalmologist will carefully explain your options to you.

Toric Intraocular Lenses were designed to correct astigmatic error for patients who have high astigmatism as well as cataracts. Astigmatism is a variation in the curvature of the cornea (the cornea is the clear, dome shaped structure in front of the iris, the blue or brown part of the eye) that can be corrected with glasses or contact lenses but is ideally corrected with a Toric IOL at the time of cataract surgery.

The Ophthalmologists at Keystone Eye are experts in the measurement and implantation of these Advanced Technology Intraocular Implants and they will be glad to discuss your individual needs and eye condition in relation to these Advanced Technology Intraocular Implants.
